In the chess tournament Lasher and Tschgoriu are leading with 12 points each, Fillsbury is third with 11-i I points. Many of the tins of Victorian honey by the steamer Damascus arrived in :i gaping condition while some were empty. The Victorian Government is blamed for not stipulating for effective packing. The shipowners decline to admit liability on the ground of insecure packing. The outer casings were intact. The loss will probably fall on the shippers. Mr Goschen, in the course of his remarks in the House of Commons with regard to the Riugarooma incident, said [ that when the occurrence, which was the ' subject of enquiry by the court martial, took place the ship was lying in harbor, the senior officer was present, and other ' vessels were near at hand, and their officers could have been consulted.
