Beckley, Messrs Waruock and Adkin's successor, has now re-open-ed the premises with an extensive stock of drapery, clothing, millinery, etc. An inspection of the goods is invited and no one will be pressed to buy. Mr Humphries, Crown Lands Commissioner, in a recent report says :— •' It is perfectly clear that the Crown has not the class of land to satisfy the demand, and the only hope lies in the transactions under tho Lands for Settlement aud the acquirement of some native blocks in the district which are specially adapted for close settlement." An enquiry was opened at Marton on Saturday, in reference to charges made against certain members of the Marton S.F.H. Association No. 2. before Mr J. H. Baker, Commissioner of Crown Lands, and Messrs W. A. FitzHerbert, T. W. Fisher and F. Pirani, M.H.R., members of the Land Board. A considerable amount of evidence was taken on oath. Iv regard to sections 30 and 31, it transpired that they had been mortgaged for ±75 each by the selectors, Misses M. E. and E. H. Harris, and the money spent on sections belonging to Mr Harris and his son. In regard to section 15, the selector (G. K. Watts) had authorised Mr T. T. Watt (to whom he owed money) to dispose of the section. Mr 11. C. Bennett, selector of section 21, had received i.IOO from B. F. Wade, who had carried out improvements and held a mortgage deed as security. In the case of section 22, there was evidence of attempt to sublet. The enquiry is being continued to day. In another column Mr W. FranklinBrowne aud the members of his family, tender their grateful thanks to those who sympathised with them in their recent bereavement. Before the funeral cortege left Mr Frankin-Browne's residence a short service was held by the Rev Mr Judkins. The attendance was representative, and included a large number (about two hundred) of the deceased lad's late schoolmates with whom he was a great favorite. Six of his class mates acted as bearers. " Little Frank " was a bright clever child for whom his teachers had great hope. At the cemetery alter the burial service the Bey Mr Jndkins delivered a touchiug address, in which he specially alluded to the simple and trusting faith and love of God which was possessed and shown by the departed little one. The hymns "Safe in the arms of Jesus" and the favorite one of the deceased "Jesus bids us shino " were sung the whole assemblage joiuiug iv. Much sympathy has been folfc and expressed for the stricken father aud relatives, aud the wreaths covering the casket were both beautiful and very numerous.
