Two Steamers on Fire.
LATER PARTICULARS. (Per Press Association. 1 ) Sypney. August 22 Tlic steamers Victoria, Emu, and South Australian, all belonging to the Adelaide s.s. Co. had been laid up for some months, and were moored together off the Sugar Co.'s wharf. The lire apparently started in the forepart of the Victoria, and raged so furiously that the vessel was burnt clean out. The flames spread to the Emu, but were extinguished after destroying the officers" quarters. The origin ho far is a mystery. Later. Owing to the Victoria being moored in the stream the fire got a firm hold before the brigade got to work. As there was no chance of saving her she was filled with wator, to prevent the flames spreading, and now lies completely gutted with her decks just above the water. The Emu's machinery and Sittings were badly damaged. The Victoria is insured for .£!X)00, and the Emu for .iT>2SO, oijnjilly divided between the Commercial L'uiou and South British Companies. _^__^^
