A New Fodder Plant.
We (Standard) are indebted to Mr W. W. Tanner, M.H.R, for the following description of a new fodder plant, seeds of which have been planted in the Govs eminent experimenlal nursery:—! new fodder plant is being introduced to the notice of the agriculturists of Victoria this season Sacuhne (Polygonum Sacchalineuse) is a native of the island of Sakhalin situated between Japan and Siberia, and of late years in Russian occupation. It is claimed for tins plant that it withstands drought and resists great cold, i? easily cultivated and yields immense crops. Sheep, cattle and horses are fond of it. In France it gave excellent results during the great drought of 1893 The plant is multiplied by seeds and rhizomes. The younff plants ara set only a yard apart, and they soon cover the intervening space. It is estimated to yield a crop of about twenty -five tons of green fodder per acre. The plant has been favourably noticed in English, American and Cape journals.
