ADDRESS-IN-REPLY CARRIED. LORD WOLSELEY'S APPOINTMENT CONDEMNED. (Per Press Association.) London, August 19. The Government have promised to re-enact clause 13 of the Land Act of 1891 in order to alleviate the condition of evicted tenants, provided there is no discussion upon it. Mr Chamberlain desires to meet tbe wishes of the Western Australian Government respecting the abolition of the Aborigines Protection Board, and bopes his modification of Lord Ripon's decision will result in a satisfactory compromise. The Marquis of Lansdowne, Minister of War, confirmed the statement as to Lord Wolseley succeeding the Duke of Cambridge as Commander-in-Chief. In the House of Commons, Mr Price's amendment (in favour of introducing legislation at once to remedy the agricultural depression was negatived, and the Address in Reply passed by 271 to 63. Mr Healy's followers threaten tp obstruct supply. August 20. The Irish Members of Parliament, and Radical newspapers are indignant at the appointment of Viscount Wolseley. The Speaker, Mr Gully, is acting with vigour towards Heaby and others who obstruct business in the House.
