. — « — During the past 12 years Australasia has exported 12 million frozen sheep to Great Britain. The death of Mr Thomas Jeffares, an old settler in Taradale, Hawke's Bay, is announced. In a letter to the Now Plymouth Harbor Board, Mr Samuel, stated that a payable flow of oil had not yet been obtained. The Wanganni Herald says that Dr Bronte, of Ashuvst, has decided to remove to Wangauui and practice there. Mr S. Wright was fined £5, £1 18s 6d costs, and treble duty at Wangauui on Friday for neglecting to send in incometax returns. A. L. Webster, town clerk of Greytown has been arrested on an information ot the audit officer, charged with embezzlement of the public funds.
Tenders are invited for stumping two acres of land at Waituna West by Mr C. Eggers. Entries for Messrs Abraham and Williams' next Colyton stock sale will be published to-morrow. Tuere will be Mass in St. Bridget's, Feilding, on Sunday next at 11 a.m , and Evening Devotion 3 at 3 p.m. The Mass will be sung — especial services in honor of the opening of the new altar. It is stated that ohe hangman offered Mrs Dean's boots for sale in the express from Invcrcargill and Dunedin but so far as we arc able to ascertain, nobody purchased the gucsome relics. Mr F. Pirani has given notice to move in the House for a return of the expenditure of the Education Building Grant for the last four years, as he contends this district has been unfairly treated. On Wednesday next, it is notified by the railway authorities, the 3.15 train from Marton to Mangaonoho will not run but the 4.23 p,m. train (as on Thursdays and Saturdays) will be run instead. Messrs Warnock aud Adkin insert an interesting explanation to the public as to tboir- reasons for concentrating- thoir business and for closing their Feilding branch which, it will be seen, arc entirely satisfactory. The Foxton Herald says that most of the Haxmills are starting work, iuclud- '' ing Mr H. Coicy's at Hiniatrngi, and Mr Tenuaut's at Carnarvon. Private cable advices from London announce a rise of X' 2 a ton. Last night Mr Mcrritt, of Campbelltown, lost a very valuable horse from tho effects of bots. A post mortem examinatiou was made so there could be no doubt as to the cause. The memorial service in the TemperHall last night held out of respect on the late Mrs Wise, was well attended. The UovJ. Cocker took for- bid text— lsaiah G4th chapter aud Oth verse, " We all do fade as a leaf and preached an eloquent and touching sermon. The Rev J. D. Russell, of St Andrews Church of England, Dulls, last night held a memorial service on tho lato Mr Charles McLean. The text was John, 11th chapter aud 11th verse, " Our friend Lazarus slccpeth," from which an impressive and instructive sermon was preached. The church was crowded. On Saturday last a number of the settlers at Campbclltowu met at the grounds to assist the carpenters to put up the framework of the Church of England. Good work was done aud the consecratiou of the building by the Bi-hop of Wellington will take place on October the '.Win. This forenoon at the Police Court a Frenchman named Henry Beliu was charged with breaking aud entering into Cheltenham Hotel on the night of the Kith instant, and stealing a quantity of spirits, cigars and a sum of money. On tho application of Constable Tuohy the accused was remanded until Tuesday the 27th instant. Bail was allowed .£SO. Mr Kirtou occupied the Bench. The funeral of the late Mr Wra Campbell, which took place ou Saturday, was well attended, a considerable number of persons from town and country joiuing in the concourse in order to show their respect to the memory of the deceased. The Rev Mr Judkins conducted the service at the grave, aud gave a short, but impressive address, m the course of which he spoke of the patience and resignation with which the deceased bore his long and trying Illness. Tt is with the most sincere regret that we announce the death of Frank Cyril, son of Mr Franklin -Browne, which took place on Saturday afternoon as tho sad result of accidental scalding. We sympathise with Mr Franklin-Browne and the other relatives, for the lad was a bright and cheerful little fellow who had endeared himsoli' to all. Tho funeral will beheld to-morrow and the cortege will leave the residence of Mr Frauklin Browne, Stafford street, at two o'clock in the afternoon for the Feilding cemetery. Tlie friends of the lad — old and young — arc invited to attend at the sad ceremony.
