Important to Fruit Growers.
The following interesting letter from Mr Charles Greig, of Jackeytown.a well known|fruit grower, to Mr Mayo, Government Pomologist, has been handed to us for publication — re keroseno ; . Dear Sir, — ■"' After using so many kinds of insectiGides I have come to the conclusion that nothing yet invented can beat it, as I have proved, and if you think fit I hope you will make use of my experience. When you were here you saw for your- , self how easy it was to apply the emulsion which is at the same time so cheap as to be witbiu the reach of all. I feel sure if its use was more general people , would not be so disheartened by the troubles which attend fruit growers. I do not claim that it will cure all the different diseases but |t will prevent*, and perhaps in time oure. Of course ie will cure if made too strong, but will Mil as all other emulsions do. I can claim that it is good for nearly all kinds of fruit such as apples, pears, cherries, plums, and I think it helps peaches and apricots. I believe the kerosene will destroy tho codlin moth, but I cannot say with certainty. My plan of using the emulsion is this. I nave the bucket containing it alongside, and with a piece of old blanket or flannel, wash the tree up as far as I can reach. If this is done for two years in succession, the results are so good that one likes the job.' I wash afc the latter end of September but ifc might be done in August. The following is the receipt— l in 14 -1 gallon of water, milk warm, J pound washing soda, £ pound soap, 1 pint kerosene. Thoroughly mix and keep on stirring as ifc is being used.— CG.
