SURREY LEADS FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP.
(Per Press Association.) London. August 15. Surrey leads for the County Championship with twelve points, Yorkshire coming next with nine. "Batting extraordinary was witnessed in the cricket field on June 6. At the Oval, against Gloucestershire, Surrey scored 36G for the loss of nine wickets, Hayward contributing a splendid 123. At Lord's, against Warwickshire, a team of M.C.C. and Ground did even better, their total for nine wickets being 429, Dr W. J. Scott making 107 and T. C. O'Brien 102. The best bitting of the day was witnessed at Brighton, where the Sussex men hit up 480 runs against Somersetshire. Marlow was the highest scorer with a dashing 155, and K. S. Ranjitsiuhji made 95 nnd Mr Murdoch, 94. Playing ngains; Kent at Manchester, Lancashire lost only four wickets for 341 runs, Paui being still in with 122 to his credit. A score of 122 (not out) was also uiado by Mr N. F, Bruce of Cambridge against M.C.C. and Ground, only seven witkets being lost for 374 runs.
