Presentation to Mrs Hastie.

-■ "O La»t night th 9 members of the Folding Brass Band held a social gatheiing in the Feiiding Hotel for the purpose of making a presentation of a photographic group of the Band to Mrs Hastie. The Mayor, Mr Sandilands, presided. Among the guests were — Mr Walter A. L. Bailey, Mr Matheson, Captain Eade of the Fire Brigade, Mr Peter Thompson, Mr Kirton, and others. The supper was everything that could be deaired. The usual Loyal toasts having been duly honored, Mr oandilands made the presentation, which Mr Dickson received, owing to the indisposition of Mrs Hastie, which prevented her being present. Mr Sandilands said that it was as a small return for the many kindnesses extended to the Band by Mrs Hastie, who had given them the us 9of the Assembly Rooms gratis fop the purposes of practice, and besides had assisted them in other ways Mr Dickson made a suitable reply. The health of Mr Sam Daw was duly honored, and Mr Daw made a record speech in acknowledgement. Mr Bailey proposed the Volunteers, which. was replied to by Captain Kirton ; Mr Matheson, in a felicitous speech, proposed ''The Ladie3," which was replied to by Messrs H. Coombe and Aitken with a few appropriate remarks on the eubject of the female, franphise. Mr Kirton responded foy the Press. Mr K F. Haybittle proposed " Kindred Societies," which toast was acknowledged by Mr P. Thomson, Foresters ; Mr Parker, Odd Follows ; Captain Eade, Fire Brigade < Mr Moore, Harmonic Society Mr Matheson, Masons. The health of " The Hostess " was proposed by Mr Kirton, who referred to the good Mrs Hastie had done, and the valuable help she had freely given to every movement which had for its object the welfare of the Borough and the residents. Mr Dickson responded on behalf of Mrs Hastie, and said whatever that lady had done in the past had been a pleasure to her, and she felt deeply the evidences of their goodwill which she had received that eveningMr Treseder proposed " Our Photographer," a toast which was responded to by Mr Scott, the local representative of Mr Bunting. During tha e?euing songs were given by Messrs Tresedor, Matheson, Morphy, Hurdle, Isaacs, E. F. Haybittle, Tip Haybittle, Newman, Eade, and Boyd. Mr S. S. Moore and Mr G." Haybittle played the accompaniments. The pruceedings terminated at midnight with " Auld Lang Syne."
