The Maori Murder.
SENSATIONAL OCCURRENCE. (Per Press Association). Waxganui, August 6. Wire Xaahu Korai was brought up at the Waverley Court th) 3 morning, and remanded to be tried at Patea on Friday next for wilful murder. He was accordingly put ou the train for Wanganui, where he was to await trial. On the journey, on eiuergfng from Xai Iwi tunnel, the constable in charge saw prisoner had cut his throat with a butchei's sheath, knife. He immediately took the weapon from him, and went on to th-3 carriage platform to obtain assistance of the guard. The man took advantage of his absence to pull down and bound through the carriage window. The constable caw him but was too late to stop him Prisoner was not, apparently, hurt by the fall, and jumped up and ran back towards Kai Iwi. The Constable went back from the next station, and walked through to Kai Iwi, where he found tho man outside the hotel. He took him in charge and brought him into Wanganui Hospital in a buggy, where the wound was stitched. So far as can be ascertained the man is likely to recover.
