The Licensing Bill.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, August 5. A dcrmtation from the Brewers' Association waited on the Premier to-day and laid before him their objections to the Government Bill. The points to which exception was taken were the minimum reduction of 5 per cent reduction by a bare majority instead of three iif ths, and to the licenses endorsed for a breach of the Act being tho first to suffer, which they urged should be left to the discretion of the Bench. They also asked that when population increased if licenses were to be granted it should be in proportion of one to 500 instead of 700 ; that the clause providing for a Magistrate acting where no committee was elected he struck out. That the onus of proof that a man was a traveller or lodger should be cast on him ; that the alteration of the minimum quantity of malt liquor from two | to four gallons bo not passed ; that the , caso of a conviction immediato landlord as well as the owner of the property , should havo power of ejectment.
