Concert at Birmingham.
A concert was hold in the Town Hall on Saturday evening, for the benefit of a young man who had met with an accident, and was well attended. Mr G. An\ on presided. The concert opened with (he glee " Smii ing morn," by the Musical Union, ami was followed by the song " Whia per and I shall hoar," by Miss Laing (encored). Song, " Friar of orders grey," by Mr J. F. Stevens. This item was encored, tho do crescendo notes being; particularly well given, but the high notes were slightly harsh. On the whole ir, was a grand rendering. For the oncoro Mr Stevens gave " The little hero ;" song, " Pretty pond lillies," Mr A. Mcßeth ; song, Miss Laing, encored ; song, " British workman's wages," encored ; recitation, " The Dandy Fifth," Mr Moss, encored, in response giving " The doctor's express " in splendid style ; song, •' When tho lights are low," Miss Amy Richardson. The second part consisted of — G lee, by the Musical Union ; recitation, " Tho station master," Mr Moss ; song, "Some clay," Mr A. Mcßeth ; bones solo, Mr F. Barlow ; song, " Forgive and forget," Miss Laing ; song, " Out on the deep," and " The mighty deep " in response to an encore. Mr Anyon explained the object of the concert, saying the proceeds would be very acceptable, and that thg expenses were small as the Feilding Star did most of the printing and advertising free. Mr Morton proposed, and Mr Mclntyre seconded, a vote of thanks to the singers.
