New South Wales Elections.
(Per Press Association.) Sydney, July 25. The Daily Telegraph considers the result one of the most brilliant and conclusive victories ever won by any Government in the electoral arena of the colony. It says : — ln blind rage the Legislative Councillors pulled down the whole structure of Conservatism about their own ears, burying protection and all forms of monopoly in ruins. Owing to Sir G. Dibbs' defeat, Mr Lyne is likely to become Leader of the Opposition. Sir G. Dibbs, in taking a farewell of his constituents, said for his service in obeying a producers' market and in showing them unfair taxation, he stood a defeated man. The flood gates of destruction were now fairly open and they would have to pay the piper. The colony was not governed by tho voice of the people, but by a syndicate in the shape of the Daily Telegraph, whose sole object was to pull down every strong Government. Mr Reid was their puppet and was willing to dance to their music. The position of the patties is as follows : — Ministerialists ... 79 Opposition 43 In. Freetraders ... ' 2 Otherwise arranged there are 60 Freetraders, 43 Protectionists, 19 Lab? ours, and 2 Independent Freetrader^. This, Day. The Protectionist party are considering the expediency of one of their number retiring in favour of Sir Geo. Dibbs. The opinion of many Legislative Councillors is that the result of the election have v dire effect on the colony as a whole.
