THE APITI BRIDGE.
TO THE EDITOR Of THE STAB. Sir,— You state in Tuesday's issue that Mr J. Stevens telegraphed that the Colonial Treasurer had promised to place .£250 additional on the Estimates for the Apiti Bridge. There must be some mistake. Mr Stevens asked me on Tuesday what I had done in the matter, and I informed him that Mr Ward had promised to re co mmeiid Cabinet to place the amount on the Estimates, and had authorised an advance of .£IOOO over the amount allowed under the Loans to Local Bodies Act for the bridge. It is not only premature, but erroneous to say that any definite agreement to place the extra £250 on the Estimates has been made, and I regret that such a statement should have been made. I am, etc., Fred. Pirani.
