(PSB PHESS ASSOCIATION) Sydney, July 23. A smart shock of earthquake was experienced throughout the southern district yesterday. At the annual meeting of the City Bank the Chairman said the report showed the business to be growing and the position stronger than ever. The strictest economy was boing exercised in view of the decreased dividends which from the present outlook, there seems little hope of increasing. The report was adopted. There is much excitement in the city and suberbs, where the candidates are holding their final meetings to-night before the polling to-morrow. The Hon. Mr Reid (Premier) has addressed immense meetings, and received enthusiastic hearings. This Day. The Commercial Banking Company declared a dividend of 8 per cent, and carried forward £"14,000. Melbourne, This Day. Alison Smith receives costs in the issue in which he succeeded. Defendant obtains costs in the issues in which he was successful. Adelaide, This Day. The Premier's speech at Tamuda defended the reciprocity treaty and State Advances to Settlers. He argued that the former was a Federal Act, while the latter was only hated because it would exterminate Shylocks. Bbisbane, This Day. The Gambling Bill has passed the Legislative Assembly. Imports for the quarter have increased by L178,000 compared with the corresponding quarter last year. Exports for the same period increased L196,000.
