English Elections.
A LIVELY ELECTION SCENE. MR RIDER HAGGARD UNSUCCESSFUL. (Per Press Association). London, July 21. At a meeting of the North Walsham electors a lively scene took place. Lord AVodehouse, resenting some remarks made by the Unionist chairman, pulled him off the platform and offered to fight bin for £50. The Unionists gain Pennant, T, Northampton South ; ' Duncombe, Egremont Division of Cumberland ; Sir AY. Gull, Barnstaple Division of Devon ; Earl of Dalkeith, Tory, for Roxburgshire'; Lord Compton for Biggleswade Division. The Radical mob beseiged Rider Haggard in an hotel at Garliston, and fifty armed police were engaged in his rescue. Sitting members elected — Thos. Cur ran, Wm. Redmond, Edward Barry, T. Sexton, J. Hogan, James Gilhooley, and Col Waring. The Unionists gain— Morrell, Tory, Woodstock ; Bathurst, Tory, Cirencester, beating Lawson ; Foster, Tory, Lancaster ; Orrewing, Ayr Rorough ; Quinn, Glamorganshire South. At East Norfolk, Mr R. J. Price, Liberal, was re-elected, beating Mr Rider Haggard by a majority of 198. In 1892, Mr Price's majority was 440. The latest returns to date are : —
