Volunteer Items.

The Manchester Rifles paraded in the Volunteer Hall last night for inspection. There were fortj members present, Capt, Kirton in command. After the usual inspection Sergt. Major Macmillan instructed the men in the new bayonet esercis@ and good progress was made. At the conclusion of the parade a general meeting of the Corps was held, Capt. Kirton presiding. Capt. Kirton gave a resume of the history of the affairs of the corps for the past four years, and explained the reasons for the annual meetings not having been held in accordance with the regulations and showed that now the company had a Hall of their own any future irregularity in that rrfpecfc was impossible. The report and balance sheet were then read acd after debate were ad< pte 1 by acclamation. Sergt Parker was appointed Secretary an 1 custodian of the Hall. Volunteers Richards and Taylor were elected as auditors for tin current financial year. The appointment of the Manrgei ment Committee and of the Trustees of the Hall were confirmed. The Ball Committee were directed to make all possible arrangements for the opening of the Hall, and to report after the parade next Thursday. It was understood that the price of the tickets should be as loff as possible so as to make the affair a, popular success. No nominations were received for the vacant lieutenancy, and the matter was allowed to stand over. At the conclusion of the proceedings Vol. Say well called for three cheers for Capt. Kirton which were most heartily given, and suitably acknowledged. An adjournment was then made to ■ host Bastings where advantage was taken of the opportunity; to thank Mr Bastings for the very handsome shoot* ing 1 yize he had donated to the Corps. Mr Bastings made a feeling reply during which he said that in the coming shooting season he would " be to the fore " again. The proceedings thf n terminated.
