(Per Press Association). Auckland, July 17. Mr R. Gilfillan, a saloon passenger to Auckland from Samoa, died on board the Monowai on Sunday last from dropsy. He was well known in Auckland, being the brother of Messrs J. B. Gilnl an and H. Gilfillan, Jan., of the city. The deceased was for a long time accountant in the National Bank of New Zealand, bat after being transferred to Wellington he left the service. Dr Joseph Cook ; who arrived by the Monowai, spends a month in New Zealand on a lecturing tour. Napier. July 17. The Nurses' Home which has been built bj r public subscription, was opened by the Mayoress this afternoon. Steps are being taken to form an Insurers' Protection Association. It was reported to the Board of Health ; to-niglit that of 677 dairy cows kept for the milk supply of Napier only two dry oues exhibted auy suspicious signs.
