Auckland City Election.

(PKB PRESS ASSOCIATION). Auckland, July 16, Thos. Thompson and Richard Monk were nominated as candidates for the City election. At a meeting of the Central Council to endeavour to effect a settlement concerning the election, a telegram was read from the Hon. W. Jennings and Messrs Pinkerton, E. M. Smith, A. Morrison, J. A. Millar and W. W. Collins urging the Council to support Mr Thompson. The meeting was very stormy, and there was frequent recrimination. On the proposal that Mr Fawcus be asked to retire being put, 12 voted in its favour, and 8 against. Seven, including the female delegates, abstained from voting on the ground that they could not vote without fresh instructions from the bodies they represented.
