The Auckland Election.

(Per Press Association). Auckland, July 15 Mr John Fawcus was nominated to-day for the seat to represent the City of Auckland in the General Assembly. Mr Shera has resigned in favor of Mr Thompson. The Central Council ask the Govto request Mr Thompson to retire in favor of Mr Faweus, the choice of the labour party. At a meeting of Mr Thompson's supporfers, Mr Jackeon Palmer read a telegiam from the Premier to him self as f Hows:—" Napier has telegraphed me more than onfta he would oppose Thompson. He has telegraphed now advising Thompson should be withdrawn. My reply to him will be that we prefer to lose the seat rather than allow deceit, treachery and trickery to prevail." Mr Fawcus addressed his first meeting of the city electors at St. George's Hall. The hall was corwded. He was a supporter of the Governmentt but in matters of principle would act independently. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried by a large majority.
