The Auckland Election.
(PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION) Auckland, July 11. At a meeting of the Central Council there were lively scenes and recriminations. Telegrams were received from the Premier and the Minister of Labour asking if a Minister should come up to endeavor to heal the breach. The suggestion was not accepted and the motion to adjourn the Council to try and arrange a compromise was also rejected, whereupon Mr Beehan, the Secretary, resigned, and with two delegates of the Liberal Association, left the meeting. Fawcus was selected a candidate by 22 to 2. The Women's Christian Temperance Union support Mr Monk's candidature for the city. Christchurch, July 11. At a meeting of the Progressive Liberal Association to-night, the following motion was carried : — " That this Association regrets the action of the Ministry in putting forward Thompson as a candidate for Auckland as an unwarrantable interference with the rights of electors and views with satisfaction the steps taken by tbe electors to assert their rights." Wellington, This Day. Tbe Hon. Mr Reeves says the statement that he had sent a telegram to the Auckland meeting, urging a Minister should go up to try and heal tbe breach, is a mistake. He never sent any such message.
