Stanway Road Creamery.
Mr Corpe met the Dairy Farmers at the above creamery on Monday evening last and stated he had called them together for the purpose of arranging for supply of milk for the coming season. He said that during the seven months the creamery worked in the past year 74,769 gallons of milk had been received for which he paid £866 19s being 3d per gallon » 31st December and 2£d to April. He was sorry to say the milk during the past year had not been bo good as the previous year and he would ask them to try and find out the reason as there must be a cause, for the milk had not been adulterated in any way. Many of the farmers seemed to think it was owing to the sLortoess of feed during the winter and cows coming in in a poor condition. Mr Corpe regretted to inform them that the JH>me butter market during the past year had been very disappointing- and he had consequently made a loss, and the prospects for the coming year were anything but cheerful. He could not, therefore, offer them more than 2d per gallon on a basis of 3-6 as per Babcock test. Mr James and several others expressed them salves willing to take that sum but the majority refused to take less then 2Ad so Mr Corpe decided to close the creamery which is to be regret ed as many of the farm« ers are gettiDg better herds and their cows coming in earlier. It will also stop the circul ition of a lot of ready cash.
