Good Templars Social at Awahuri.

The annual social in connection with the Hope of Awahuri 1.0. G.T. Lodge was held in the school room on Friday evening, and despite the very inclement weather was largely attended, including a number of visiting brethren from the Feilding and Palmerston Lodges, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. The chair was occupied by Bro. Linton, C.T., who expressed his pleasure at seeing such a large number present, and especially thanked the visitors for their courage in attending on such a boisterous night. The programe was as follows :— Duet, " Climb up," Bros Bray and Hoppy ; recitation, " That Mustard Plaster," Bro. Edwards ; comic song, " The Dutchman," Bro Flyger j dust, " Convent Bells," Sisters Jackson and McKeDzie ; recita tion " Socrates Snooks," Sister Beazer ; song, " No night there," Sister Phillips ; violin solo, Bro Staffan ; duet, " The Fisbe man and his Child," Bros Bray and Hoppy ; recitation, " The Rum Maniac," Bro. Edwards ; song, " Waiting to hear the Verdict." Bro Hoppy ; duet, " The future lies before me," Sisters Phillips and Beazer ; violin solo, Bro Staffan ; song, " Swanee Eiver," Bro Bray ; song, " Signed the pledge for mother's sake," Miss V. Mackenzie ; recitation by Sister Mackenzie ; comic song, " John Malone," Bro Flyger. Bro. Hill, of Palmer&ton, delegate to the Wellington Temperance Convention, gave his report on what had taken place there. The programme was gone through very creditably, especially co by Bros. H. Flyger, Bray, Hoppy and Edwards (members of the^Feilding Lodge), the former proving himself to be a clever mimic and first-class comic singer, his songs creating roara of laughter and he was loudly encored for his rendition of " The Dutchman," but time did not permit of his responding. Miss V. McKeDzie, a lilt'e girl, not yet in her teens, displayed a sweet voice in the song " Signed the pledge for mother's sake." This little girl gives promise of developing into a very popular vocalist. The duet by Sisters Mackenzie and Jackson, and the violin solo by Bro Staffan are also worthy of special mention. At the conclusion of the programme refreshments were handed round to the visiting brethren, and votos of thanks accorded to those who contributed towards the pro Gramme, The "Climb up" quartette will visit the Ashurst Lodge on Monday week.
