Plain and Fancy Dress Ball at Pohangina.
Tho Trustees and Secretary of the | Pohiingina Public Hall must feel i gratified by knowing that everyone ! thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the above ball on Friday last. Ordinarily the Hall looks somewhat bare, owing ! to tho lack of lining on tho walls, but i on this occasion one could fancy that j the days of enchantment wore present again as it appeared liko ono of those gorgeous palaces mentioned in the Arabian Nights. Stormy weather prevailed outside, but inaide all was merriment. Two ladies were in fancy dres^, and well looked the characters they represented, viz., "Dolly Varden" (Mrs Welsh) and " Hospital Nurse " (Mrs Griffiths). The other ladies were in evening dress and ljoked \ simply lovely. Mr A. A. Wagstaff acted as M.C. for the first part of the evening, being kindly relieved by Mr !S. Roberts. The ball was opened with a Grand March quadrille, the M.C. and Dolly "Varden leading offMessrs Riinmer, Froeroan, and G. S. Claphatn, supplied the music. The piano was again kindly lent by Mrs Thornton. Dancing was kept up till 4.30 am , and the unanimous verdie lwas that it could not have been better-
