Australian Politics.

(Per Press Association.) Sydney, July 2. Government, in their scheme for reform of the Legislative Council, propose that Councillors be elected for a term of five years, twelve retiring each year. Tbis Day. The Council threw out the Electoral Bill by 26 to 14. The Loan Bill provides for raising £2,516,000 bj* the sales of debentures, or to issue stock at a rate not exceeding 4 per cent, any stock issued in tbo colony to be redeemable concurrently with that issued in 1892. The rejection of the Electoral Bill by tlio Council will hasten tbe dissolution, which will now probably not be delayed more than a week. The Cabinet has again considered the question of the reform of the Council, and decided nothing will be gained at the present stage by bringing forward a Bill as the time occupied in drafting will delay a dissolution. The best course will be to introduce the Government proposals in the shape of resolutions. Melbourne, This Day. An amendment was carried in the Assembly fixing the duty on bottled beer at a shilling in bulk and ninepence a gallon bottled.
