FEOZEN MEAT TRADE.

, TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAB. '. Sm,-«rSome few weeks ago I pen--1 ned you a few lines combatting Mr ' Nathan's statement (and It is a too. popular fallacy in New Zealand) that our meat exporters were being sacrificed to the rapaciousness of rings of uq- come-at-able " middle men "—that our meat is equal to the best English, and, is in fact, sold as such. 1 contended that our meat, to begin with, ! was not equal to the Home product, aud that the quality was still further deterisrated throught the freezing and thawing process. To affirm that our people were robbed all these years— that they didn't get market value, was, I maintained, contrary to common sense. That opinion has been amply borne out by the report of Mr John Duthie jusfrrsfaH?a©tH:rom ~" Home. Our farmers will do well not to be misled by the plausable story of those who have something to gain, and nothing to lose by wildcatschemea for improving matters, and there are enough Government guarantees already in existence to make the future prospect as to the outcome quite . interesting. Let us improve upon the present state of things by all means, but nothing will be accomplished by whining about the supposed " wrongs " done to New Zea- .-■ land. While our people are indulging in idle vauntings and sitting on their v " hunkers " waiting for the " glorious climate " to bring them riches,--- other, countries are putting their shoulders $!, to the wheel, and passing us by in a \\ canter. The artificial, and especially U the drier and more nutritious feeding If of stock is the great remedy, while -I|| energy #ud common sense aTe the \ working tools. I am, etc., Pessimist.
