Police Court.

THIS DAY. (Before Messrs H. L. Sherwill and A. F. Halcombe, J.P.'s.) Tohn Traynor was charged on the information of Constable Tuoby with the theft of six fowls, the property of Mrs Hastie, and two fowls, the property of Miss Goggan. Accused pleaded "not guilty," and, on the application of his solicitor, Mr Reade, was remanded till eleven o'clock to-morrow morning. Bail was fixed at his own recognisance of .£25, and one surety of i-25. Adaline Robinson, wife of Richard Robinson, was charged on the information of the Police, that she " did unlawfully use a subtle craft by palmistry to deceive and impose on Her Majesty's subjects," on June 21st, at Feilding. In support of the charge Constable Tuohy called H. R. Rockell, H. Simpson, P. Woulfe, and G. Burne, who deposed to going to a " show " on Friday evening, in premises in Fergusson street, and when there were given to understand they could have their palms read by a lady palmist, Mrs Robinson, known as Madame Zingar. No charge was made for this, but they were told they could give what they liked or need not pay if they did not choose. There was no attempt to deceive or extort money. Constable Tuohy produced a placard, which was posted outside the premises, in support of the charge. He did not ask for a severe penalty, only he wished the practice stopped. Richard Robinson, husband of accused, deposed to having travelled through the North Island.but were not intrfereed with in any of the towns by the police. The Bench were of opinion that section 50 the Act was clear, and prohibited the practice whether money was taken or not ;f or palmistry. Accused was fined £1, or in default seven days' imprisonment. Accused pleaded she had no; money, and the amount was raised by those present in the Court. The Court then adjourned.
