Mr Pirani has given notice in the House to introduce a Bill to amend the Counties Act with the object of removing doubts as to the power of newly constituted couuties to collect rates levied by Road Boards. Mr Pirani also gave notice to move for a return of prosecutions under the School Attendance Act, and to ask the Minister of Railways what steps have been taken to carry out the Premier's promise last session re travelling allowances to railway emploj'es. It is rumoured that Mr Arkwright (Rangitikei), Mr G. W. Smith (Waipawa), and Mr Geo. Jones (Oamaru), and Mr T. Thompson (Auckland), will be amongst the new Legislatiye Councillors. Mr W. Hutchison intends to move the abolition of Bellamy's. Mr E. M. Smith wants the North more fairly and better represented on the Ministry when additional appointments are made. Mr Smith wants the Government to purchase the Manawatu Railway. — Standard.
