The Kiel Canal Festivities.
GRAND NATIONAL DEMONSTRATION. (Per Press Association). Berlin. June 19. The Baltic ancl North Sea Canal, which was begun early in IS9I, is to be opened on Thursday. Thb Imperial yacht Hohenzollern, with the Emperor ancl Empress of Germany on board, will break a thread across the waterway ancl will be followed by twentythree ships. Nearly one hundred warships of different nations are as semb'ed in the harbor. The banquets and decorations have been arranged on an enormous scale. The entry of the British warships was the signal for continuous saluting. Fifty-one warships, representing the fourteen Powers, exclusive of Germany's contingent, have assembled at Kiel. Great Britain is represented by 18 ships, France 3, Italy 8, and Russia 3. Grand preparations were made to fete the visitors by members of tbe Royal Family of Denmark at Lauches, at Lmtallon, ancl Castle Copenhagen. The King proposed the health of Mr Gladstone, who, in reply, eulogised tlie two last Czars.
