The Colonial Temperance Convention. '
♦ The New Zealand Alliance seemed determined to make the above the largest convention yet held in the colony, and are desirous that the dates fixed upon should be widely known, especially as it was decided to hold it a week later — viz., 10th and 11th. It has now been finally fixed for Wednesday and Thursday, 3rd and 4th July. The subjects for convention have been announced and are as follows : — (1) Essentials of New Legislation, by Rev. E. Walker ; (2) Parliamentary Work, by Mr E. A. Haggen ; (3) Organisation of the Party, by Rev. T. J. Wills. There is to be a mass public meeting in the Opera House, Wellington, on Thursday evening (preceded by a torchlight procession ancl open-air meeting), when C. M. Luke, Esq. (Mayor of Wellington), will preside, and it is expected the following gentlemen will be among the speakers, viz. : — Sir R. Stout, R. McNab, M.H R., Hone Heke, M.H.R., Rev. F. W. Isitt, ancl MrT. E. Taylor.
