The Volunteer Drill Hall.
«. The erection of a commodious drill hall has just been completed by the Manchester Rifles in Stafford street, for drill purposes, and it should prove of great convenience to the corps. The building has a frontage of 50 feet and a depth of 70 feet, with 20ft studs, while the height of the building from floor to ridge is 36 feet 3 inches. The hall is entered from Stafford street by a 9ft by 9ft doorway. To each side of the entrance is an orderly room, lift Bin by 19ft, in one of which there is a fire-place. There is a clear hall for drill instruction of 58ft 4in by 50ft. The work of erecting the building was entrusted to Mr R. Young, wbo carried it out faithfully and well, according to the plans prepared by, and under the supervision of, Mr C. Bray (senr.), architect. Messrs Watson Bros, were entrusted with the painting. The officers and men are to be congratulated on the possession of such a convenient building, and we have no doubt all volunteers in the corps will show their appreciation by mustering in full strength at every parade. In addition to the usefulness of the building for drilling, it will be utilised for other purposes such as a gymnasium, etc.
