POHANGINA v. COLYTON. The abovo match was played at Colyton on Saturday, and resulted in a wiu for Pohangina by six points to nil. Pohangina won the toss and elected to play down hill. Kick-off saw the visitors in trouble, but the sterling play of Wilson and Johnston saved their side, and the play was soon near the half-way flag, being of a give and-take character, until the Colyton forwards, headed by Blake, Fitch, and others, came down with a rush forcing PohaDgina down. Johnston set the ball rolling and soon bad it in Colyton territory. From the line out Watson got the ball and made a good run, but was grassed near the line. A scrum was formed and Colyton was forced down. From the kick out the ball was rushed up the field, and Wilson by a good kick relieved his side, the ball going out at the halfway flag. On the throw in Sangster obtained the ball and made a neat pass to Johnston, who made a good run and 6cored at the corner flag. He took the kick himself but did not increaso the score. Colyton now made desperate efforts to score, but the Pohangina forwards were not to be denied and started a fine dribbling rush headed by Adsett, Parish, and Wutson, and on the ball going into touch, half-time wa3 called ; Pohangina 3, Colyton nil. On resuming play Pohangina were put on the defensive, and Colyton were near scoring several times. Pohangina forcing down, Lucas kicked out, and W. Adsett following up well obtained the ball and when collared passed to Wilson who was thrown out of touch. From tho throw in Fitch got hold of the bather and parsed to Smith, who mulled Johnston went over the line with a fine dribble, and scored at the corner flag ; Peddie took the kick, but did not convert. From this till the end of tho spell, the game was in the centre of the field. Mr Matheeon gave every satisfaction as referee. Three cheers were given for Mr and Mrs Stewart for providing refreshments, and for the use of the field. (pre press association) Sydkey, This Day. Tbe Rugby Union has declined to accede to the request of New Zealand to postpone the Queensland v. New South Wales match to September in order to enable the Queenslanders to leave earlier fur New Zealand. The reason given is that it will be too hot to play in Brisbane in September.
