ILLNESS OF THE SPEAKER. (Per Press Association). Wellington, This Day. The Speaker is ill with influenza and will not be present at the opening of Parliament. The Government have requested that Mr Guiness be in his place in order to preside. Auckland, June 17. A number of members of the General Assembly left for Wellington to-day. After the formal opening of Parliament on Thursday afternoon, both Houses will adjourn, according to custom, till Friday afternoon, when the Address-in-Reply will will be moved in the Legislative Council. The Address-in-Reply will be proposed in the House of Representatives on Friday evening, Mr Fred Pirani, member for Palmerston, is to move the Address-in-Reply in the Lower House, and it will be seconded by Mr Graham, member for Nelson, or Mr Maslin, member for Rangitata. — Times.
