♦ - It has long been known that the trade quotations sent from England by the Press Association have been inaccurate and carelessly compiled, while the errors in transmission have accentuated this objectionable feature. A case in point is given by the Lyttleton Times of Thursday last : " The prices quoted in London on May 2nd, for instance, were 3d to 3£d for Canterbury, and 2d to 2£d for Welliugton mutton ; but the Press Association in telegraphing to the colonies struck a rough average and gave the price as 2 l-8d to 3 l-8d for iNew Zealand mutOn the same date Canterbury lamb was quoted at 4£d to sd, and Wellington lamb from 3£d to 4d, but the Press Association gave only one price, 3|d, which, it will be observed, was considerably below the lower quotation for Canterbury meat. It is quite time the Directors of the Association devised some bettor means of keeping their subscribers informed of the condition of the London market." Thousands of sheepf armers in the colony look forward with considerable anxiety f these quotations because, whether they are to make a profit or a loss, their dealings may be determined by the character of the reports from the Homo market.
