Orton's Confession Confirmed.
o The cable from England concerning the confession of the Tichborne claimant, has evoked reminiscences in Hobart. The widow of the late Hon. T. Chapman has all along been convinced that the Claimant was indentical with an illiterate man who was on board the ship Middleton early in 1853. Mr S. Bendall, one of the oldest butchers^ remembers employing Orton in the slaughteryards, and describes him as a big, lusty fellow, but an unskilful butcher. He noticed a tattoo mark on his arm, and the name of an old sweetheart of Orton's at Wapping. Mr Bendali got him a situation with Mr Johnston, of Gippsland, as a station outrider. Mr Bendall gave evidence before the commission, "and from photographs shown bim picked out Orton's easily. Mr Bendall was asked to go to England to giye evidence, but declined to sacrifice his business interests. '
