At a meeting of the Canterbury Progressive Liberal Association, a motion was carried protesting against permission being given to the Bank of New Zealand Estates Company to dispose of properties in its hands by lottery. Charges of Sunday trading brought against eleven hotelkeepers by the Prohibitionists, and counter charges of inciting to breach of the Jaw, came before the Pohce Court to day. Two informations were heard, but the decision was reserved till the whole of the cases have been before the Court. Wellington, June 14. At tbe adjourned meeting of the Suburbs Licensing Committee conflicting evidence was taken as to the intemperate habits of one licensee S. L. Cole. His application for renewal was adjourned for 14 days to enable Cole to dispose of the hotel. Hawera, June 14. The body of Mr John Henry, tbe wellknown contractor, who has been missing for the last few days, was found to day in the Waingongoro river near Eltbam. Auckland, June 14. The Alameda arrived from Sydney this afternoon with 60 saloon, and 45 steerage passengers for 'Frisco. She sails to-mor-row. Major Pangbourne and party, the American Transportation Commission, left for Rotorua to-day, accompanied by Mr Grant, district railway manager. At the Suburban Poultry Fanciers Club show there were 556 entries. J. Walker, Wellington, got 1 gold medal, and 14 first, 4 second and 5 special prizes out of 28 entries. C. Lafferty, Christchurch, got 6 first prizes. Taranaki and Gisborne also secured prizes. The new Bay of Islands Coal Company has been boring further a field lately and dropped upon a seam seven feet thick in entirely virgin ground. The find is considered important. This Day, Tbe mining excitement still continues, values of all stock is increasing. It is intended to place several of the mines on the London market. Napier, This Day. Obituary — Robert Lamb, architect. Woodville, Tbis Day. Railway traffic was blocked yesterday afternoon through a rock falling aud smashing one of the bridges in the Gorge. To-day tbe trains run to either end of the bridge and exchange passengers and mails.
