THE DEAN COMMISSION. THE BROKEN HILL MINE. (Per Press Association). Hoi'aut, June 18. The Ruapehu from London arrived at mid-day, and is to resume her voyage to Wellington to-morrow morning. She has 11 passengers for Australia, and 79 for New Zealand. Sydnky, June 14. The Dean Commission examined Dean in the gaol. His evidence was substantially the same as tbat given at the trial. Application for an injunction to prevent the sale of the Broken Hill Central mine was partly heard to-day. The counsel for the directors of the company showed that it was only proposed to sell the sulphide deposits, the kaolin and oxydised ores remaining the property of the company. He also pointed out that the directors had power to sell without consulting the shareholders. Adklaidk, June 14. Advice bas been received that the Duke of Conuaugbt bas testified bis appreciation of tbe worth of the late Major Jervois by attending bis funeral in person. This Day. The liquidator of the Federal Bank of Australia has obtained permission ofthe Court to remit a further ±'7000 to London to pay another dividend of ls to the British creditors. Tbis makes 6s in tbe £ paid since tbe stoppage. Melbourne. This Day. Tbe Totalisator Bill, introduced into the Assembly, provides that only registered clubs may use tbe machine. They will be allowed to deduct 5 to 8 percent, of the money put through, to be spent in racing. A third of tbe net profits must be banded to tbe Colonial Treasurer, and it will be placed to the credit of a charities fund. At a meeting of the Temperance party, in tbe Assembly, it was decided that in tbe present state of public business tbe temperance question must stand over.
