Precautions against Disease.

(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, June 13. A deputation waited on Colonel Hume, Inspector of Prisons, to-day with regard to the detention and medical treatment of a vagrant man and woman suffering from contagious diseases. Col. Hume said he was prepared to recommend to Government to grant Addington gaol, which had been disused for some years, for the purpose named. Judge Ward, who was one of the deputation, read the clause, which, if embodied in the Act, would give the magistrate power to commit vagrants suffering from contagious diseases to the infirmary to be detained till cured. It was decided to request the Minister of Justice to use his best endeavors to pass the clause into law this session.
