Colyton Cricket Club Dance.
A plain and fancy dress ball was held in the Mangaone Hall, Colyton, last evening under the auspices of the Colyton Cricket Club to celebrate their success during the past season, they having won the KaugitikeiJJanawatu Union Cup. During the evening a very pleasing ceremony was performed, viz., the presentation of a handsome banner to the Club by Miss Shortall on behalf of the ladies <^f Culyton. Mr J. Entwisle as Captain of the Club received the gift and suitably responded. The banner was made of dark blue silk material with gold fringe and tassels, the monogram, also, being worked in gold. In addition to the monogram and emblems of cricket, the banner contained the inscription " Presented to the Colyton Cricket Club by the ladies of Colyton." Two other presentations were also made, viz , a handsomely framed photograph of the team to Mr W. Entwisle for the best bowling average, and a bat (donated by Mr C. A. W. Hunt) to Mr J. Johnston for the best batting average during the past season. Mr A. Wratt made the former presentation and Mr Hunt the latter. The dance was attended by a number of visitors from Ashurst, Feilding and other parts of the district, the fancy costumes together with the decorations of the Hall presenting a very lively appearance. Mr A. Wratt made an efficient M.C. and the music supplied by the Ashurst string band was all that could be desired. Songs were contributed during the evening by several gentlemen. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs F. Y. Lethbridge, Mrs J. Sorley and other ladies for their kindness in providing refreshments for the cricket teams playing on the Feilding ground.
