The Premier and the Farmers.

The Premier, on Thursday, addressing a deputation from the Wellington Agricultural Society (says the Weilington correspondent of Truth), spoke in very encouraging terms of the de. sire of Government to assist in procuring cheaper transport ani a bettor distribution atthe market end, of New Zealand produce. He 6aidi as regarded the Conference upon the subject of the frozen meat export freights, etc., that some weeks ago he cabled to the Hon. Mr Ward in London, drawing his attention to the fact that New Zealander shippers were paying at least a farthing a pound more in freight than shippers from the other colonies, and asking him to make arrangements, if possible, to obtain the fullest information. He took that opportunity of saying that very great credit was due to Mr D. J. Nathan for the persistency with which he had been bringing this important matter under the notice of the producers and those interested in the meat freezing business. Whilst, of course, he did not endorse Mr Nathan's scheme, he thought the effect of bringing it under the notice of those more particularly interested wculd eventually result in good, and therefore Mr Nathan deserved every credit, and he hoped he would persevere. From tha Conference something would be evolved beneficial to all concerned.
