CRAMMING EXTRAORDINARY.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, — So pleased am I with the letter of " Parent " that I should much like a grip of his hand. Will you, Mr Editor, effect the necessary introduction, and ask him to call on me with a view to co operation in this matter. I may add another to his well groundod objections to this "cramming for results" system It is that when children are kept from school on account of sickness or other cause beyond their control, the master insists that they do overtime in school or at home to make up all lost lessons — a cruel and dangerous practice, ruinous to the physical well-being of little ones, and indulged in, because for sooth, it is the master's interest to obtain good passes ! Out with this " sweating " of sickly or at any rate helpless ones ! There was a time when the youngsters took a healthy interest in the school, now it is regarded by all as a mere house of drudgery and unhealthioess. Parents ! Lork to it well and promptly save your children from the misery of an unhealthy life. I am, &c, Common Sense.
