Baron You Mueller has received a telegram from Sydney that the cablegram announcing the discovery of the North Pole was a hoax. The report of the Railway Committee recommends the betterment system to be introduced in the construction of new lines ; also that districts benefited make good any deficiency in the working expenses and pay interest on the cost of construction. The Guardian Accident Insurance Company willl be wound up voluntarily, as a preparatory step towards its being reformed. Adelaide, This Day. The Government is placing on the local market LBOO,OOO worth of 8J per cent bonds, being balance of the loan authorised in 189<J. Perth, This Day. The Minister of Railways announces that Government will absolutely refuse all concessions to syndicates for the construction of public works, as the policy of the country is to construct and control all water works, railways and tramways.
