Kiwitea County Council.

The regular monthly meeting of the above body was held at their offices, Feil cling, on Saturday afternoon last. Present— Crs J. Reid (chairman), JTorner, W. F. Jacob, W. Jones, G. Shannon, W. Morton, and J. J. Williamson. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : — From G. W. D. Theobald, Rangiwahia, asking the Council to have a log removed from a drain.— Ordered to be removed. From W. A. Sandilands, solicitor for C. Bull, asking for surplus of sale of two bullocks sold out of the Cheltenham pound. — Amount handed over. From G. L. Lay, Pemberton, asking permission to erect verandah opposite his store. — Agreed to. From C. J. Hansen, Birmingham, asking permission to erect a verandah in front of store he is about to build. — Agreed to, subject to approval of the Engineer. From Ji. Tolley, objecting to loan being raised for Terrace and Branch roads, as a previous poll had resulted adversely. From Commissioner of Orown Lands, re expenditure of thirds from section 8, block XV, Hautapu. — The Engineer was instructed to spend money on Watershed road. From R. James, asking for payment for felling bush on road-line. — Granted. From J. Larsen, Beaconsfied, re outlet from his section. — Engineer had moved in the matter, and application had been sent to Surveyor-General. From E. Short, Waituna West, asking permission to erect fence in front of sections 44 and 64, Ongo. — Engineer to report on kind of fence'proposed and as to advisability of allowing use of four feet of road. From H. O. E. Calthrope, applying for rayruentfor bushfelling on roadline. From J. C. Johnston, asking permission to fell road-line aloug Mangapipi road. From J. W. Jenkins, J. C. Johnston, F. Meads, asking Council to construct 30 chains of bridle track to connect with their sections. From J. R. iJavies, stating he had no objection to Council closing present culvert in embankment and opening another at southern end of embankment, provided the Council fenced the dam securely. From Lands and Survey Department, stating a warrant had been issued authorising the erection of a bridge across the Oroua river. From Treasury, voucher for £300, amount of loan tor widening of Hayne's road ; also, £2 Is lid, contribution towards cost of licensing election, March 1894, in the Rangitikei district ; also, £300 on account for construction of Perry's road ; also, re application for additional loan of £500, being balance of £5000 loan for work in Ongo riding, and stating they could not grant it as no promise to grant it had been made ; also, re merging Kiwitea Road district in a County. From M. A. C. Jackson, an application for license to slaughter on section 36, Birmingham. — Granted on receipt of £2, license aucl commutation fees. From A. Fergusson, asking that Mrs Stead's name be placed on rateroll in place of his for sections 83 and 84, Birmingham. From J. Siddle and J. Pask, asking that A. Boshier's name be placed on rate-roll for sections 21, 22, 43. Apiti Survey district. — Name of acceptor to be obtained. From Clerk of Rangitikei County Council, enclosing detailed account of expenditure on Vinegar Hill bridge to 31st March. The total cost was £l29s 16s Bd, and the Kiwitea Council's share was £647 18s 4d. Also, asking the Kiwitea Council to take into consideration the advisability of erecting a suspension bridge at Otara, as his Council were of opinion it would be cheaper than one on cylinders. From Stephenson Bros., and Morine Bros., applying for eight days labor opening bridle track between Mangapapa road and Sandon block road, to give them an outlet.— Council could not entertain application as instructions for work had not been given. From C. Chamen and fourteen other j ratepayers, protesting against a ranger being appointed on Peep-o'rDay and Bluff roads. From Goodbehere aud Richmond, a legal opinion re buildings on roads in Beaconsfield. From Mrs M. Hastie, Mrs J. Hicks and Chas. Cleaver, asking that a ranger be ap« pointed to impound all stock trespassing on Bluff road. From A. R. Cox, Qfc. Hartley, and H. Balfour, asking the Council to construct a bridle track through the Rangitikei Valley road to the river. Messrs Jos Schapleski and TV. Chamberlain waited oil the Council on behalf of the settlers on Mcßeth's line, asking that the contract for clearing, stuinpiDg, and forming should be altered, the formation to be left over till next summer, as the wet weather would make the road impassable if done now. The contract was let to McDermott, and it would be utterly useless to attempt formation now. The Chairman said the Council saw no objection to acceding to the wishes of the settlers, providing the contractor would agree to the Engineer assessing the estimated cost of the formation and deducting it from the contract price until completed. Mr McDermott was asked if he wou!d agree to these terms, and he replied that he would abide by the Engineer's terms and complete the contract next summer.
