(Per Press Association). Palmekston N., This Day. A public meeting, attended by 1200 people, was held last night in connection wifch the Temperance Convention. The Mayor presided. Addresses were delivered by Dr Newman aud Mr H. D. Bell, M's.H.R., and Miss Kirk, president of the W.C.T.U. The proceedings were of a mosfc enthusiastic character. In the course of Mr Bell's speech he advocated the most drastic legislation for the regulation of the liquor traffic, including local prohibition by a bare majority, Colonial Prohibition by a majority of districts on the American system, and the responsibility of hotelkeepers to persons injured by drunkenness or to relatives. The Temperance Convention which commenced yesterday is being continued to-day.
