Just so 1 i A deputation of settlers from Beef Creek waited on Mr Fred Pirani yesterday to ask bim to use his influence as a member of the Education Board to get tlieir school placed under the Board. Mr Pirani said tbat from bis knoAvledge of the locality be felt sure tbe request of the settlers Avas a reasonable one, and he would do bis utmost to bave their wishes carried out. Another deputation from RangaAvabia also intend to interview Mr Pirani about a school in tbat township Avbile tbe good folk of AAvahou aye bent on the same errand. — Standard. A concert Avas held at Apiti last evening in Mr Eagar's Hall by the Christy Minstrel Troup before a large and appreciative audience, when tbe advertised programme Avas gone through exceedingly well, the most notable items being those of Master Neale Eagar, wbo was deservedly encored for bis song " Cows in the corn," and Mr J, Turner's pupils' sfcep-dauciug, Avho were also encored. The sports funds for Avhich the concert was in aid of wiii benefit a good j deal by the takings, wbicb Avill enable j them to gefc their ground in order. After j the concert a dance was beld, being at- j tended by a goodly number, and was . kept up till early hours tliis morning.
The Kiwitea County Council met today. Captain Edwin wired at 12.27 to-day: —Strong N. to W. and S.W. winds and glass rise. The Mercury says :— A big dividend was paid in the last race at the Wauganui Jockey Club's meeting yesterday, mosfc of the money coming to this end of the district.
