Fire Brigade Competitions.
The local Fire Brigade held a competition amongst its members yesterday on Kimbolton road. The several events were well contested, and Lieut. Newman was the most successful competitor. Captain Eade and Mr C. Bray (senr) to'.ed as judges; Mr C. H. Hosking, starter ; and Mr J. Coombe, timekeeper. Below are the results of the several contests : — First event, one man engine, manual (dry). — Lieut. H. Newman 47 1 osec (including 3sec penalty), 1 ; Fireman J. Humphrey, 48 4-seec, 2 Foreman H. Muller 55sec (including ssec penalty) 3 ; Fireman D. Macfarlane, 60 15sec, 4. Firemen W. Gosling, R. Bilderbeck, B. Parkes, W. Hicks, and G. Boyd also competed. Two- men reel and engine — Foreman Muller and Fireman Humphrey, 3G 4-ssec, 1 ; Lieut. Newman and Fireman Gosling, 37 4-osec, 2 ; Fireman Parkes and Hicks, 47 3 ssec, 3 ; Fireman Macfarlane and Bilderbeck, slsec. Coupling practice for one man — Lieut Newman, 40 3 sec (including 2sec penalty), 1 ; Foreman Muller, 49 4-ssec (including 3sec penalty), 2 ; Fireman Humphrey, 54 2- osec (including osec penalty), 3 ; Firemen Gosling, 58sec (including 3sec penalty), 4. Also competed — Firemen Boyd, Macfarlane, Hicks, Paikes and Bilderbeck. Two men engine (dry) — Lieut. Newman and Fireman Humphrey, 52 4 ssec (including 2sec penalty), 1 ; Foreman Muller and Fireman Parkes, 63 4 ssec, 2 ; Fireman Gosling and Hicks, 78 4-osec (including lOsec penalty), 3. Also competed — Firemen Garlick and Macfarlane, Fir em on Boyd and Bilderbeck. Throe men reel and engine (dry).— Lieut. Newman, Firemen Parkes and Bilderbeck, lmin 45 4 ssec, 1 ; Foreman Muller, Firemen Gosling and Hicl S, lmin 55 l-ssec (including lsec penalty), 2; Fireman Humphrey, Boyd and Macfarlane 2min 22 3-ssec (^including 7sec penalty), 3. Only competing teams. Consolation ladder rescue race — Fireman D. Macfarlane, 24 3 ssec, 1 ; Fireman G. Boyd, 30 4-osec, 2 ; Fireman Gosling, 35 4-ssec, 3. Fireman Hicks, 40 2 ssec, also competed. Tbe prizes won yesterday will be presented to the winners at tbe social on Monday night.
