The timber to be taken from the colony by the ship Bangitikei, which sails from Picton on Saturday, is as follows : — 209,362 ft birch, 146,154 ft red pine (rimu), and 17,848 ft white pine. The timber will be landed in London by the New Zealand Loan aud Mercantile Agency Company, and special arrangements have been made by the Wellington branch for a thorough test of the English market. A sample parcel of 4670 feet, mixed kinds, brought up from Greymouth on Monday by the Wainui, is going on by the Rimutaka, by means of which an effort will be made to create a demand for the Rangitikei 's instalment, which will arrive in London some time after the Rimutaka. In addition to the foregoing, the company is forwarding samples of polished rimu aud dressed white, black, and red pine and birch. These woods will be brought under the notice of the principal cabinetmakers with a view to introducing them into the English furniture trade. A chest of drawers manufactured in Greymouth is also going Home, and will be exhibited in London in some public place. The importance of the venture cannot be over-estimated, and its result will be watched with interest, —Post.
