ME MACLEAN'S REPLY TO MR SANDILANDS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, — We come at last to the end of my correspondence with Mr Sandilands. In his letter published on Saturday he says, "It I have been guilty of ' crowing,' no doubt your readers— or at any rate such of them as are ratepayears — will pardon the offence, as the victory gained is something to be proud of." This being all that I contended for in my last letter, and the offence being admitted, there is no more to be said. I, for one, am quite -willing to forget that the Mayor of the Borough, in an unguarded moment, started crowing when it was announced that a large and influential minority of his ratepayers were defeated at the poll. I am, etc., C. L. Maclean*.
