Shocking Death of a Poor Woman.

Melbourne, May 9. A sad case of distress has been revealed at Gonlbonrn. A woman named Webb, whose husband is supposed to be afc Cool gardie, gave birth to a child, which died. The woman was alone at the time, being too poor to pay either for a nurse or for a doctor. She had borrowed the bed, which was poorly supplied with clothes, while six other children slept on the floor. Three doctors were sent for but did not come. The woman also applied to the local City Mission for relief, but was refused, as she had only been in Goulbourn for four months. — Post correspondent.
