„ _ (Per Press Association.) Sydney, May 16. The last American mail brought large numbers of applications from American sportsmen and speculators for shares in the St. Alban's Stud Lottery. Adelaide, May 15. Mr Davitt delivered his first lecture in the Town Hall, which was crammed. He had an enthusiastic reception, and dined with the Premier. Brisbane, May 16. Rabbits are swarming on the New South Wales side of the border, and are devastating tlie country. The Royal Bank of Queensland is arranging to pay off the deposits locked up under the reconstruction scheme, by the issue of 4 per cent, debenture stock. One half of the first instalment lias been already paid though not due till 1898, and the second half will be paid shortly. The bank last year reduced the amount due to the Government by £160,000. The directors considered that operations were fettered by the scheme.
